Telemedicine Q & A

What is telemedicine?

Telemedicine is a form of medical care in which you meet with a provider virtually via a tablet, phone, computer, or another electronic device. Dr. Rodriguez offers this service for many types of appointments, particularly sick visits, medically supervised weight loss, medication management, and treatment for depression, anxiety, and other mental health concerns.

Which advantages does telemedicine offer?

Telemedicine provides numerous benefits, including:

  • Same-day appointment options
  • No rushed office visits
  • No waiting rooms
  • No need to travel or take time off work
  • No need to find childcare
  • No exposure to other patients
  • Exceptional care
  • Privacy
  • Unlimited visits

Dr. Rodriguez accepts many insurance plans and offers affordable monthly membership plans for people without insurance. You always see her rather than a nurse, nurse practitioner, or physician assistant.

Is telemedicine right for me?

Dr. Rodriguez can see you virtually for many types of appointments. Unless you need an in-person physical exam, hands-on disease screening, lab testing, imaging procedures, or an in-office procedure (joint injections, splinting, wound care, stitches, abscess drainage, earwax removal, wart or skin tag removal, etc.), chances are you can schedule a telemedicine visit instead of an in-person appointment.

Other reasons for in-person care include Pap smears, intrauterine device (IUD) insertion, diabetic foot exams, vision and hearing screenings, newborn exams, and vaccinations. If you’re unsure if you need in-person care, Dr. Rodriguez can assist you over the phone.

She also provides house calls for newborn care and people who need hands-on evaluations or treatments but have difficulty leaving their homes.

What happens during telemedicine visits?

During telemedicine visits with Dr. Rodriguez, she contacts you during your scheduled appointment time. She discusses the reason for your appointment and your symptoms, lifestyle, and medical history. She completes a virtual exam and orders diagnostic tests if necessary.

If you need treatment, Dr. Rodriguez offers recommendations. She may suggest prescription medications, lifestyle changes, rest and fluids, hormone therapy, medically supervised weight loss, a minor procedure, or treatment for anxiety, depression, autism, or attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

Follow up with Dr. Rodriguez as needed virtually, in-person, or via a house call to ensure your treatment is effective or should you feel ill, are due for a physical, or experience new or unusual symptoms. She’s always available to address concerns or questions you may have.
